I’m not broke; have a deal with Apple – D’banj

Nigerian artiste, D’banj, has denied rumours that he is broke.

D’banj, who in 2012 left the record label he co-founded, Mo’Hits, following conflict with his partner Don Jazzy, has been rumoured to be on the brink of financial ruin.

Critics have also lambasted him for failing to produce a hit single since the split.

Speaking to On-Air-Personality, Olisa Adibua, on his eponymous show, The Truth by Olisa Adibua, Dbanj said the past two years since the split has been some of the best years of his life.

He noted that for a long time, while with Mo’Hits, he was forced to share his revenue from performances with other members of the label, which included D’Prince, Dr. Sid, Wande Coal and D’Banj’s brother, K Switch.

“This has been the best two years of my life,” he said.

Mr. Adibua also challenged the Oliver Twist singer on the rumour that he was having trouble retaining staff and was being sued by an unnamed businessman whom Dbanj owed loads of money.

Dbanj said he still worked with his staff and on the alleged court case: “My lawyers told me not to say anything since it’s allegedly a rumour,” he said. “It’s so painful that people know you are such a huge brand that God has blessed, and they feel the best thing to do is defamation of character.”

On his lack of hits, Dbanj, demanded what constituted a hit, insisting that on the contrary, his career has boomed since he went solo.

The artiste said he would be releasing his new line of headphones and would have launched by January if things had gone as planned.

He also revealed that he is collaborating with phone company, Apple, but refused to reveal details of the contract. He, however, claimed that the phones were “already sold out”.

It Is Very Hard to Find a Lady that Understands Enough to Accept the Schedule, Attention and Demand My Job Requires – M .I Abaga

M.I Abaga has gotten a lot of questions about his personal life and if he would be getting married soon.

In an interview with Punch Newspaper’s Saturday Beats, the rapper addresses his relationship status and if he will be getting married soon.

He also talks about a recent interview thatKelly Hansome had in which he stated that he had created M.I’s success (click here if you missed it), whether or not there is animosity between him and Olamide and much more.

Read excerpts from his interview below.

On Kelly Hansome’s claims of creating his success: I read the article but I don’t think that is exactly what he was saying. I understand that it is all about publicity but there are some comments that do not need response. Of course, Kelly Hansome and I have met, we have spoken and we have a cordial relationship. If Kelly Hansome said he made MI, I don’t think it is something I need to respond to. I think MI’s success is self-evident and that is the truth.

On Olamide: I am a huge fan of Olamide; people do not realise how much I appreciate what he is doing right now. He is not alone because there are other indigenous rap artistes like Reminisce and their music is amazing. What they are doing has never been done before apart from that of the late Da Grin. They should be supported. However, I have no problem with Olamide. We see each other and we are friendly towards each other but I will not say that we are close friends. I am happy about his success. He is even on my album and we do not have any form of beef.

On getting married: I don’t think MI is in a relationship and Jude Abaga is a very private person who hardly talks about his personal life. But if people are really curious about my private life, all I can say is that there is someone. With my career, it is always wise to keep things personal. However, if I am getting married, I will not be able to hide it. At the right time, it will happen but it is very hard to find a lady that understands enough to accept the schedule, attention and demand that my job requires. If I find the lady and we get to that point, I will call you first.

Right Now, Iyanya Is More like a Big Brother to Me – Lola Rae

Sexy, sultry singer, Lola Rae has dropped new singles recently as she makes a comeback into the Nigerian music industry.

The British-Ghanaian-Nigerian singer had a chat with Vanguard newspaper and she talks about making a comeback to the music industry, her love for music, her speculated relationship with Iyanya and more.

‎Read excerpts from her interview below!

On music in Nigeria: To me, the experience is really good. And at the same time, difficult because sometimes you will want to give out the best of you but there is no room for such. I strongly believe that the entertainment industry will find its place in terms of structure in no time, and we will not relent to attain a well-structured system. I am 100 per-cent ready to face the music and the many challenges I may encounter. I have nothing to fear. I was born here in Nigeria and I am used to the system. At present, I am launching my coming back with a big bang. I am really enthused to carve a niche for myself and affect the industry positively. My management is taking necessary steps to stamp my come back on the scene.

On Iyanya: Iyanya is a veteran in the game, he’s done so much and he was the one that said he wanted to feature in the song. I was so surprised and had to ask him if he had heard the song before and he told me there was no problem. Right now, Iyanya is more like a big brother to me.

On what makes her different from other female stars: My sound; because in my new single it sounds as if I’m rapping but I’m not a rapper. I’m trying to rebrand myself in order to stand out and be unique. Also, I will be doing more of stage performances and not just the normal studio recording.

On nudity in the industry: I don’t agree nudity is encouraging and it’s exactly what has taken over the entertainment industry because everybody wants to sell his/her song. And it seems to be working because the fans love it. I’m not saying one should get naked but you just have to give your fans the best. For instance, the way I dress when going onstage is quite different from the way I dress on a normal day. I always like to look sexy while performing and it’s a way of giving my fans the best.
