Microsoft Software company is building a new browser that is not Internet Explorer

According to a recent report by Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet, Microsoft is building a lightweight browser, codenamed “Spartan”.

A post written by Foley reveals that Spartan is “new” and “isn’t [Internet Explorer].” Her post notes that it could be set free inside of the Windows 10 release schedule. In short, Microsoft may be building a speedy, simpler browser that maintains use of Internet Explorer’s rendering engine.

Internet Explorer has had a ribald history, growing from zero market share, to market-dominating heights, to slow decline in the face of Firefox, to faster decline in the face of Chrome, to a recent re-acceleration under a new, standards-based approach. Its life has been bitcoin’s late 2013 to date, but stretched out over several decades.

‎Whether the company’s recent moves have been enough to salvage Internet Explorer’s tarnished brand, however, is open to interpretation. Microsoft certainly wants its browser to gain market share, especially on the new Windows 10 platform that it hopes to deploy from smartphones all the way to televisions.

If Microsoft wants Windows 10 to function across all platforms and wants developers to be able to develop once and deploy everywhere, then creating a new browsing experience that is built to handle all sorts of inputs — without the baggage of a traditional desktop browsing experience — would be a decent idea.

The company, in the second half of January, is expected to release the consumer-facing preview of Windows 10 in that window, is under some pressure here. If it fails to impress, it will directly undercut the momentum that it has built for its new operating system. A new browsing tool could help boost human interest in its new platform.

Perhaps it is better to ask ourselves what would happen to Microsoft’s browsing market share long term, if it fails to reimagine Internet Explorer.

Photos: Chinese Businessman Is Jailed For 13 Years For Buying And Killing Tigers To Eat

A wealthy Chinese businessman has been jailed for 13 years for hiring poachers to kill three tigers so he could eat their penises and drink their blood. Xi Pat had ‘a special hobby of grilling tiger bones, boning tiger paws, storing tiger penis, eating tiger meat and drinking tiger blood alcohol’.

A court heard he ate the genitals and drank the animals’ blood before giving the rest of the meat to his business friends and partners.

The court also heard he organised three separate trips last year for 15 people, including himself, to Leizhou in the southern province of Guangdong, where they bought tigers for a ‘huge amount of money’ that were killed and dismembered as they watched.

One of the group filmed the entire process of a tiger slaughter with his mobile phone. The footage was later obtained by police.

Police then seized eight pieces of animal meat and bones from a refrigerator in Xi Pat’s home, some of which were later identified as tiger parts, including a penis.

The police report added exotic meats including gecko and cobra were also found in the fridge.

A court in Guangxi convicted the 15 of ‘illegally transporting precious and endangered wild animal products’.

The court heard Xi Pat insisted on the big cats being caught alive so when they were killed they could be bled and he was able to drink the blood.

Read excerpts from her interview below:

On opening up about her breakup: One of my goals was to give people a glimpse into my personal life because it’s something I’ve kept very private. I had to learn to do something as simple as sleep alone. I struggled with ‘Do I express these feelings?’ And I decided there’s no reason for me to hide. I’m a vulnerable woman, and I’m proud of that.

On her abortion & teenage pregnancy: I thought I was going to die. I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I’d ever gone through. It’d be contradictory if I said I wasn’t pro-choice. I wasn’t ready. I didn’t have anything to offer a child.

Photos: Couple Charged With First-Degree Murder After Neglecting Hungry Baby In Car Seat To Die

A couple, Ruby Stephens, 23, and Roy Stephens, 48, of Indiana have been charged with first-degree murder for neglecting their 22-day-old baby to die of hunger while strapped in her car seat at the back of their car while they went in to eat at a Florida restaurant.

The mother who came out hours later to check the baby, found out she was completely unresponsive and cold to the touch and called 911.

The police later arrested the couple and the mother confessed she had strictly breastfed the baby every two-three hours on their long trip to Florida.

A medical examiner who later determined the death of the baby sad it was a homicide resulting from starvation due to neglect. The baby had been dead for more than three hours before the parents took notice and called for help.

An autopsy found Betsey weighed only 4lbs 1 ounce at death, having shed about 2lbs since her birth. Normal weight for her age was about 8lbs, the medical examiner’s office said.

The baby was also dehydrated and appeared not to have been fed for six to seven hours prior to her death, the medical examiner also confirmed.

The mother however said, her husband whom she already has two kids for was not the biological father and had not paid much attention to her from birth. The obvious infidelity and subsequent pregnancy created a strain on the marriage, she said.

The couple were also traveling with their 1-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter. They both appeared healthy and have been taken into protective custody.
